Referral Information

Working in Partnership With Your Veterinary Surgeon

All physiotherapy at Paws & Claws Veterinary Physiotherapy is provided under veterinary referral or consent, in line with professional and regulatory guidelines. This ensures that treatment is safe, appropriate and fully supportive of your pet’s veterinary care.

We work collaboratively with veterinary practices and value clear, open communication throughout your pet’s treatment.

Why Is Veterinary Referral or Consent Required?

Veterinary physiotherapists work alongside veterinary surgeons to support diagnosis and treatment plans. Referral or consent allows us to:

  • Treat within our professional scope

  • Ensure therapies are appropriate for your pet’s condition

  • Avoid contraindications or risks

  • Communicate effectively with your vet

Who Can Refer?

  • Your registered veterinary surgeon

  • Veterinary practices providing ongoing care

  • Referrals may be for dogs or cats

Owners are very welcome to contact us directly — we are happy to request veterinary consent on your behalf.

How the Referral Process Works

  1. Initial Enquiry
You contact us by phone, email or via the website.

  2. Information Collection
We will request basic details including your pet’s name, age, breed and veterinary practice.

  3. Veterinary Consent
We contact your veterinary practice to request referral or consent before treatment begins.

  4. Appointment Booking
Once consent is received, your appointment can be confirmed.

  5. Ongoing Communication
Where appropriate, progress updates or feedback can be shared with your veterinary surgeon.

What Information Is Required?

To request referral or consent, we require:

  • Pet’s name

  • Owner’s full name

  • Pet’s age and breed

  • Registered veterinary practice

Your veterinary surgeon may also provide relevant clinical history or imaging findings if appropriate.

What Treatments Are Offered Under Referral?

Physiotherapy treatment plans are tailored to each patient and may include:

  • Manual therapy and massage

  • Therapeutic exercises

  • K-Laser therapy

  • Therapeutic ultrasound

  • Electrotherapies (TENS, NMES, PEMF, heat and cold therapy)

  • Home exercise and management advice

All treatments are selected in line with veterinary guidance and patient suitability.

Referrals From Veterinary Practices

Veterinary practices are welcome to refer patients directly. Referral forms are available in printed or digital format on request.

We are happy to:

  • Discuss suitability prior to referral

  • Support post-operative and long-term cases

  • Provide feedback or updates as required

Home Visits & Victory Visits

Home visits and Victory Visits are also available where appropriate. Please note that physiotherapy treatment during home visits still requires veterinary referral or consent.
